So Say We All

Goodbye, Battlestar Galactica.
It took me nearly a week to finally sit down and write this post, to shake off the dread, the chills, and the night sweats and claw my way to the computer to bid farewell to what? A goddamned TELEVISION SHOW.
Alas, everything I’ve just said is true, and it is with a deep sense of loss and sadness that I write this post, beset by flashbacks of Bill and Lee Adama, Kara Thrace, Laura Roslin, Saul Tigh, and yes, almost especially that weasel-until-just-before-the-end Gaius Baltar. This is horrifying. To think I would feel such a crippling sense of estrangement like a vice around my heart knowing full well that I will never see a new episode of Battlestar, flawed as it was but nonetheless an almost majestic Sci Fi Channel series that provided such uncharacteristic depth for a show of its kind or, for that matter, almost anything else on cable or network television.
A few fans of Lost might have just shit their pants, but they’ll simply have to deal with the blatant truth. Lost is woefully limited by its existence as a prime-time network television show despite exceeding many network constraints. J.J. Abrams deserves his respect, but Ronald D. Moore and David Eick deserve their crowns.
At one point, The New York Times called Battlestar Galactica the “best-written show on TV” and John Hodgman may have written the best piece yet on the conception and genesis of the show.
Perhaps I’m overreacting. Perhaps the spin-off series Caprica or a planned TV movie telling the story from the perspective of the Cylons will provide my methodone, something to wean me from my weekly drug. I doubt it, though. The only solution is to pay for a memory wipe and watch the whole thing all over again.
I wish I had more in me at the moment, but I might need some time before I can dig deep and revisit Battlestar in any meaningful way. For now, I must simply cope and find suitable distractions.
So say we all.

Wow, I suck for just having read this.
It was a truly outstanding show.
Well, that’s odd. I just happened to be posting, and I saw that you commented.
Haven’t heard from you in a while, heavyarms. How goes it? I must admit to checking in more sparsely with That’s Just Prime than I once did, but it seems about time to catch up. You’ll find I tend to work in waves on the internet.
Incidentally, if you do happen to read some of the more recent posts, you will likely recall our own political gnashings of teeth. I hope you don’t think I mean you when I generalize certain viewpoints. I’ve always considered you among the Thinking Classes, though the jury is still out on me.
At times, I feel I operate more via random electrical impulse than anything.
At any rate, good to hear from you again, and I hope all is going well. Feel free to fill me in with details.
No, we’re cool. I’d like to think that we (you and I, not generalizing here) can get along despite our political differences. I think maybe that’s the true measure of patriotism? I don’t know. You’re probably giving me more credit than I’m actually due if you’ve placed me in the “thinking” category.
Everything’s going great with me other than suffering from a nasty bout of unemployment (got laid off in February.) That should be ending here fairly soon, I got a job offer and am just waiting to finalize everything.
The great thing is, thanks to a hefty severance package and some thrifty spending, we have more money in our checking account now than I ever did when i was working. Unfortunately, this job is only paying about 2/3rds what my last one was. I guess we’ll be alright. Time will tell. Depending on when you left off with WTJP! you may not have missed a whole lot because I took some time off when I got laid off.
You might also checkout my other blog for some Millennium Falcon-y goodness. Until next time…
Lucky Us….. We are still waiting for 4.5 to come out on dvd. Hahahahaha!
I cried a tear when I watched the last episode – I had put it off for half a year (I watched only downloaded), because I didn’t want the BSG-universe to disappear from me..
But now it has – and I’m filled with mixed feelings of joy and grief..
So Say We All.
