The 2013 Shanghai International Literary Festival kicked off yesterday. I was not able to attend any sessions until today, which happened to be the one I was moderating with the poet Simon Armitage. The event was very well attended, and the discussion moved along nicely. Simon is funny and endearing, and speaks well about his work. It is obvious that he thinks deeply about what he is doing, and I enjoyed hearing what he had to say about his verse, about the business of poetry in the 21st century, and about place and how it can shape poetry. It was invigorating to listen and absorb all that he had to say.
If you don’t have your tickets for the upcoming events, you can check out mypiao and purchase tickets there.
