Looking for a new sound? If you're like me, then your two steps ahead of the game and have already purchased the new album by Flobots. This groups brings to together so many sounds even your parents could appreciate it. Classical violins, jazz horns, guitars, bass, drums (and maybe a few things I missed) all fill your ears accompanied by strong political lyrics. Fear not. Even if you hate politics, you will still like this album because the beats are too mesmerizing to escape.
Each track has a unique sound, and the album will keep you constantly guessing. One minute you're rocking hard, and the next, you've never been more relaxed. If you still don't know who I'm talking about, you might have already heard their break out hit Handlebars. You know that contagious song you heard once on the radio that left you sitting through annoying radio commercials in hopes that you would hear it again? The song that makes you want to prove you can keep rhythm with no metronome even though you can't? Do yourself a huge favor and buy Fight with Tools because Handlebars only scratches the surface. There isn't a track on this album I have skipped over.
Flobots assembled in Denver and quickly became popular on the underground scene there. They released and album in 2005 titled Flobots present: Platypus, and Fight with Tools was officially released in 2007, though it is just now gaining national fame along with the group, who has been rocking every city they visit (they are doing a lot of touring this summer, hint, hint). Check out their website for more information. I did, and if I didn't already like them enough, one of the emcees, Brer Rabbit, lists Nightcrawler as one of his influences.
So get on board now, before the Flobots become the cool thing to like and people call you "that guy" or "that girl." Nobody wants that, least of all you.
Fight with Tools is available for direct sale on the Flobots' website as well as in most of your local entertainment retailers. Get out there and buy it to blast the system right out of your mom's minivan. Or, preferably, if you have your own ride, collect your buddies and go cruising to the perfect summer soundtrack.
