too quiet for thought
BY SHELLY BRYANT I AUGUST 16, 2009
-1-
in spaces too quiet for thought
the wandering mind
grows drowsy
and dims
into an easy repose
-2-
into an easy repose
its lithe green flesh sinks
a clawed leg dangles
over lettered wood
demarcating reptile house boundaries
-3-
demarcating reptile house boundaries
wire mesh
paint coated
standing three meters tall
in jungle growth hidden
-4-
in jungle growth hidden
discarded aluminum
red and white markings
under silvery cap
the real thing
hailing
-5-
hailing
speeding cabs
in no stopping zones
under monsoon's pelt
hoping somehow
for luck's odd stroke
-6-
luck's odd stroke
just missing the way
I wander each day
at irregular intervals stopping
amongst too boisterous crowds
and on good days
in places too quiet for thought
